The pets, the Ember Party Hat and the cosmetics and furniture of The Sunken Isles land on top of the catch instead, and are lost if their bag is full, as are a crate, map, silver or Pearl that find a full backpack; one wreck cast never brings up both the Ship's Wheel and the Anchor. The gold drop is a "look what I got" moment rather than a real income stream — the biggest purse (10 Gold) is the price of a Level 2 rod. | ||

|---|---|
| Activity | Catching Herring, Trout, Bass, Tuna, Swordfish, Parrotfish, Grouper, and Fangtooth across eight waters — plus mounts, pets, cosmetics, furniture, gold, and Molten Rock on rare or special casts |
| Tool required | Starter Fishing Rod · Level 2 Fishing Rod · Fire-Resistant Fishing Rod |
| XP per action | 125–160 per catch, varies by fish (see table) |
| Max level | 40 (Fishing 30 required to wear the Angler Outfit) |
| Counts to Total Level | Yes |
Fishing is a full core skill in Kintara, rebuilt from the ground up around eight fish, eight waters, a bait ladder, three rods, and a chase cosmetic set. It replaces the old single-generic-fish system entirely.
Eight Fish, Eight Waters
| Fish | Where | Fishing level | Bait | Cooked heals | Catch XP / Cook XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Herring | The Pond | 1 | Feather Bait | 5 HP | 125 / 125 |
| Trout | Whisperwood | 6 | Trout Bait | 10 HP | 130 / 130 |
| Bass | The Shores, south of the buoys | 13 | Bass Bait | 15 HP | 135 / 135 |
| Tuna | The Shores, north of the buoys | 20 | Tuna Bait | 20 HP | 140 / 140 |
| Swordfish | The Deep — raft-only water at The Shores | 28 | Squid Bait | 25 HP | 145 / 145 |
| Parrotfish | The Sunken Isles — the Coral Reef | 32 | Reef Jig | 30 HP | 150 / 150 |
| Grouper | The Sunken Isles — around the wreck | 36 | Diving Plug | 35 HP | 155 / 155 |
| Fangtooth | The Sunken Isles — the trench | 40 | Glow Jig | 40 HP | 160 / 160 |
The Bait Ladder
Every rung trades 10 fish for 5 bait of the next tier, at either the Old Fisher (The Pond) or Dockhand Maren (The Shores). Raw or cooked fish both count, and raw is spent first so your cooked food survives as long as possible.
| Trade | Cost |
|---|---|
| Feather Bait ×1 | 1 Feather |
| Trout Bait ×5 | 10 Herring (raw or cooked) |
| Bass Bait ×5 | 10 Trout (raw or cooked) |
| Tuna Bait ×5 | 10 Bass (raw or cooked) |
| Squid Bait ×5 | 10 Tuna (raw or cooked) |
| Reef Jig ×5 | 10 Swordfish (raw or cooked) |
| Diving Plug ×5 | 10 Parrotfish (raw or cooked) |
| Glow Jig ×5 | 10 Grouper (raw or cooked) |
Every bait is also purchasable outright for 1 Gold per 100 at either counter, except the three sea baits, which only Dockhand Maren sells — bait is deliberately a rounding error, since the ladder is paced by the level gates and exchanges, not the price of a hook. Bait is spent on a catch, not a cast: an empty bite or a cancelled cast costs nothing.
The bottom rung isn't a fish — Feather Bait comes from Feather, which chickens now drop alongside raw chicken meat (they used to drop finished Feather Bait directly, which read as a bird carrying a tackle box).
Burnt fish into bait
A burnt catch isn't wasted any more: the same two counters will chop 5 burnt fish into 5 bait for that same species, so you can go and catch another one.

| 5 Burnt Swordfish | 5 Squid Bait |
| 5 Burnt Parrotfish | 5 Reef Jig |
| 5 Burnt Grouper | 5 Diving Plug |
| 5 Burnt Fangtooth | 5 Glow Jig |
A burnt-fish row only appears in the exchange while you're carrying that burnt fish — banked burnt fish don't count.
Rods
| Rod | Price | Water |
|---|---|---|
| Starter Fishing Rod | Free, from the Old Fisher at The Pond | The Pond + Whisperwood |
| Level 2 Fishing Rod | 10 Gold, Dockhand Maren at The Shores | Everything except lava — including The Deep and The Sunken Isles |
| Fire-Resistant Fishing Rod | 15 Gold, Dockhand Maren at The Shores | Emberstone lava only |
An upgraded rod keeps working in the water it replaces — the Level 2 rod still fishes The Pond. The Fire-Resistant rod is the exception: it's built for lava and does nothing anywhere else.
The Shores Dock
Dockhand Maren's 11-tile pier reaches ten tiles out to sea on the north side of the buoy line, fully walkable (including straight through Maren herself). It's load-bearing, not decoration — a cast only reaches 5 tiles, so the far ocean columns (where Tuna lives) are unreachable from the sand alone. Walking the planks brings the Tuna water into range.
The buoy line itself is a marker, not a depth change: north of it is Tuna water, south of it (and everything below) is Bass water — both sides are the same water.
Moving Fish Spots
An active fishing spot is a 2×2 block of water that stays hot for 2–5 minutes, then moves — every spot runs on its own independent timer.
Fishing Alerts: the game plays a short ping when the fish leave the spot you're casting into, and a warning sound when a shark starts circling you at sea. Both are on by default and can be switched off with Fishing Alerts in Settings → Sounds (saved per browser).
| Water | Live spots |
|---|---|
| The Shores — Tuna | 3 |
| The Shores — Bass | 3 |
| The Deep | 2 |
| The Sunken Isles — Coral Reef | 3 |
| The Sunken Isles — the wreck | 3 |
| The Sunken Isles — the trench | 2 |
| Whisperwood | 3 — one in the river, one in each accent pond |
| The Pond | 2 |
| Emberstone | 2, spread across its three lava pits |
Your own line is drawn in gold, thicker than everyone else's and with a bobber on the end, so you can always find it in a crowd. Other players' lines are drawn slightly faded.
Wooden Raft
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Price | 200 Gold, from Dockhand Maren |
| Where it works | The Shores and The Sunken Isles |
| Type | Real inventory item — not a mount |
Carry a Wooden Raft and clicking the ocean at The Shores steps you onto it. The raft's job is The Deep — the Swordfish water, which refuses every cast unless you're afloat. (Tuna water is reached by walking the dock instead.) It is also the only way to reach The Sunken Isles, the open sea past the far east edge of The Shores' ocean — and it has to stay in your bag the whole time you're out there, or you're ferried straight back. Boarding dismounts you, and you can't mount while afloat. It lives in your backpack (must be in inventory, not bank), and being a real item means it can be traded, banked when not in use, or lost on your corpse — that's what makes 200 Gold a real price. It doesn't work on The Pond or Whisperwood (fishable end-to-end from the bank already) or on Emberstone lava (nothing wooden floats on lava).
Cooking and Burning
Every fish has a burnt version, and cooking one is a roll against your Cooking level.
| Cooking level | Burn chance |
|---|---|
| 5 and below | 30.0% |
| 10 | 26.4% |
| 20 | 19.3% |
| 30 | 12.1% |
| 40 | 5.0% |
The rate slides roughly 0.7% per level between those anchors and never reaches zero — a mastered cook is a rare accident, not an impossible one. The Roast Pit shows your exact current burn chance.
A burnt fish gives no HP, can't be eaten and pays 0 Cooking XP. It still stacks, trades and sells, and 5 of them trade back into 5 bait for the same species (see Burnt fish into bait) — but every burn is a fish that no longer counts toward the Angler Outfit raffle, which is paid entirely in cooked fish.
Fishing buffs
Two dishes help fishing for 10 minutes after you eat them:
- Fisher's Chowder (Cooking 10) — fish bite sooner; the wait for a bite is 15% shorter.
- Seared Tuna Steak (Cooking 26) — +10% Fishing XP on every catch.
Catching 500 and 5,000 fish unlocks the Angler (3,000 Fishing XP) and Master Angler (12,000 Fishing XP) achievements.
The Angler Outfit
Three pieces — Angler Hat, Angler Vest, Angler Waders — obtainable only from the raffle at The Angler (The Shores).
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Cost | 500 points → 1 Angler Raffle Ticket. Every cooked fish is worth points: Cooked Herring 1, Cooked Trout 5, Cooked Bass 8, Cooked Tuna 9, Cooked Swordfish 10, Cooked Parrotfish 11, Cooked Grouper 12, Cooked Fangtooth 13 |
| Odds per ticket | 1 in 1,000 for one random piece |
| Other prizes | A ticket that misses rolls once more, for the Anglerfish mount (1 in 2,400), Ocean Aura (1 in 1,800), Anglerfish Lantern Hat (1 in 1,200) or Mounted Swordfish (1 in 800) — see The Angler |
| Duplicate protection | None — duplicates possible, all pieces tradeable |
| Wear requirement | Fishing level 30 |
| Set bonus | 30% faster fishing everywhere, including Emberstone lava |
A ticket costs 500 points — 50 Cooked Swordfish, or 500 Cooked Herring — so a hit lands on average once every 1,000 tickets. This is the game's intentionally long chase set.

The mounts are independent rolls — each is genuinely its listed rate, not split from one shared pool. The Turtle Mount is not part of this pool. A mount lands in place of that cast's fish; a rod relic's rare-find shortens every one of these odds, the crate, map, silver and Pearl included.
Related Fixes
- Magma Brute respawn in Emberstone defaults to 90 seconds (lengthened from 45 seconds), giving fishers there a real window to operate.
- Cooked Trout, Bass, and Tuna were previously uneatable from the client despite the server accepting them — this is fixed; they heal as advertised wherever food can be eaten (the Wilderness realms and Emberstone), but never in The Dunes, where no cooked fish heals at all.
- "Deliver Cooked Fish" scroll tasks now accept any cooked species, not just Herring, and spend your cheapest fish first.
- Fishing gear (rods, raft) previously had a bug where it could vanish after any server-side inventory grant (a mob drop, a chicken kill, a completed trade). This has been fixed.
