How to get Fishing in the trench at The Sunken Isles (Fishing level 40, Glow Jig, Wooden Raft)

Fangtooth is the eighth and highest tier of Kintara's eight fish, caught in the trench at The Sunken Isles — the near-black deep water in the south-east of the sea. Its Fishing level, 40, is the Fishing cap. Cooking it converts it to Cooked Fangtooth, the strongest fish heal in the game at 40 HP — or, on a failed cook, to Burnt Fangtooth, which is junk. Cooked Fangtooth does nothing in The Dunes: the heat blocks every cooked fish there, and cacti is the only food that heals in the sand.

Catching

Requirement Value
Location The Trench, The Sunken Isles
Fishing level 40
Bait Glow Jig
Rod Level 2 Fishing Rod
Also needed Wooden Raft in your backpack or hotbar
Catch XP 160

The trench has 2 live fishing spots, and it is shark water: stay on one tile for 45 seconds — or keep your line in the trench for 45 seconds from the tile you fish from — and a shark bites you for 40 HP. Moving one tile starts the count again. See Sharks. Casts into the trench also roll for the Trident (1 in 20,000 per cast) and the Kraken (1 in 30,000 per cast), which lands instead of that cast's Fangtooth — see The Sunken Isles. The Sunken Isles is closed to free accounts (those holding under 1,000 $KINS).

Cooking

Result Effect Cooking XP
Cooked Fangtooth Heals 40 HP 160
Burnt Fangtooth No heal, no XP, junk item 0

Cooking Fangtooth requires Cooking level 40, the Cooking cap. Cooking any fish is a roll against your Cooking level — the burn chance starts at 30% (level 5 and below) and slides down toward, but never reaches, 0% (5% at level 40). The Roast Pit shows your exact current burn chance.

Uses

  • Cooked Fangtooth counts toward the Angler Outfit raffle at The Angler — it is worth 13 points, the most of any fish, against 1 for Herring, 5 for Trout, 8 for Bass, 9 for Tuna, 10 for Swordfish, 11 for Parrotfish and 12 for Grouper, and 500 points buys one raffle ticket. The outfit itself needs Fishing 30 to wear; the exchange has no level requirement.
  • Fangtooth is the top of the ladder: there is no further bait tier to trade it up to.
