The Traveling Merchant was the main early source of Gold for players who gathered resources, trading material bundles for Daily Lottery tickets. He was found dead by his cart on the Mainland, and his services are shut down.

The merchant is dead: The Traveling Merchant was found dead beside his cart — cause unknown. The crime scene that once ringed the cart was cleared in July 2026, and a granite memorial tombstone now stands on his old tile. Clicking the tombstone opens an "In Memoriam" popup: "The Traveling Merchant, May 22, 2026 — Jul 18, 2026 … Gone, but not refunded." A death in Kintara

The Traveling Merchant was found dead by his cart, and the area around it became an active crime scene: bright caution tape ringed the cart, a Constable NPC patrolled inside the tape, and players could not cross the cordon. The Constable had theories (a robbery gone wrong?) but no answers.

On 20 July 2026 the crime scene — the body, the blood, the tape, and the Constable — was cleared from the world. Today only the granite tombstone marks the spot.

• With the merchant gone, his services are permanently shut down: no Gold trades, no campaign contributions, and no lottery entries.
• The lottery estate has been settled — in the Constable's words, "Every logged stub was paid out to its rightful claimant or forfeited to the Crown at the inquest deadline." There is no longer any way to make a claim in-game.

The mystery of who killed the merchant, and why, was never solved in-game.

How the Daily Lottery worked (historical)

Historical: The following describes the Daily Lottery as it ran before the merchant's death. It is kept for reference. No new entries are possible, and all outstanding claims have been settled.

The merchant ran a single Daily Lottery on a 24-hour cycle: a 12-hour window to buy tickets, the draw at 12:00 UTC, then a 12-hour window to claim winnings before they expired at midnight UTC. Each ticket cost one bundle of materials:

The number of tickets a player could buy per day scaled with the $KINS held for 24 hours (3 tickets at 1,000+, 10 at 5,000+, 15 at 10,000+, unlimited at 100,000+), under a daily Gold cap of 4,000. Winning tickets paid 1 Gold; losing tickets refunded 50% of their materials, with the other 50% burned. Tickets bought before the refund change kept the old 95% refund.
