Traveling Merchant
Role Deceased (formerly Gold vendor)
Location Mainland — crime scene, cordoned off
Services Offline. Only pre-existing lottery winnings can still be claimed at his body.

The Traveling Merchant was the main early source of Gold for players who gathered resources, trading material bundles for Daily Lottery tickets. He has been found dead by his cart on the Mainland, and his services are shut down.

The merchant is dead: The Traveling Merchant was found dead beside his cart — cause unknown. The area is now an active crime scene ringed with caution tape, and the cordon cannot be crossed. His death is under investigation in-game. Gold is now earned through mob kills and the Venomweaver instead — see Gold for current sources.

A death in Kintara

The Traveling Merchant has been found dead by his cart, and the whole area around it is now an active crime scene. Bright caution tape rings the cart, and players cannot cross the cordon.

  • A new Constable NPC patrols inside the tape. He can be spoken to for the latest on the investigation — he has theories (a robbery gone wrong?) but no answers yet.
  • With the merchant gone, his usual services are shut down: no Gold trades, no campaign contributions, and no new lottery entries.
  • Any lottery you already entered still pays out. Walk up to the merchant's body to collect your winnings off the estate — outstanding draws still resolve and claims stay open.

The mystery of who killed the merchant, and why, is an ongoing in-game storyline.

Claiming outstanding lottery winnings

If you entered the Daily Lottery before the merchant's death, your tickets are still valid:

  • Outstanding draws still resolve normally.
  • Winning tickets still pay 1 Gold each.
  • Collect your winnings at the merchant's body on the Mainland.
  • No new tickets can be bought — the lottery is closed to fresh entries.

How the Daily Lottery worked (historical)

Historical: The following describes the Daily Lottery as it ran before the merchant's death. It is kept for reference. No new entries are possible.

The merchant ran a single Daily Lottery on a 24-hour cycle: a 12-hour window to buy tickets, the draw at 12:00 UTC, then a 12-hour window to claim winnings before they expired at midnight UTC. Each ticket cost one bundle of materials:

Material Amount
Wood 2,600
Stone 1,400
Coal 800
Cooked Fish Meat 40

The number of tickets a player could buy per day scaled with the $KINS held for 24 hours (3 tickets at 1,000+, 10 at 5,000+, 15 at 10,000+, unlimited at 100,000+), under a daily Gold cap of 4,000. Winning tickets paid 1 Gold; losing tickets refunded 50% of their materials, with the other 50% burned. Tickets bought before the refund change kept the old 95% refund.
