Role	Pickaxe giver / mining tutor
Location	The Mines, Mainland
Services	Gives a starter pickaxe and replaces lost ones.

The Old Miner is an early mining NPC found in the Mines on the Mainland. New players visit the Old Miner to receive a Pickaxe and begin training Mining. The Old Miner will also hand out a replacement pickaxe to players who have lost or no longer carry one.

Mining path

Step	Action	Result
1	Get a Pickaxe from the Old Miner.	You can mine in the Mines.
2	Mine Stone and Coal in the Mines.	Earn Mining XP. Iron Ore (in Frostmere) needs Mining 5; Silver Ore (in The Dunes) needs Mining 20 and a forged pickaxe — starter tools don't work in the Dunes.
3	Forge a copper, iron ( Lvl 2 Pickaxe), or silver pickaxe at a blacksmith.	Faster swings (+5% copper, +10% iron, +15% silver). Yield and XP per swing stay the same as the starter pickaxe.
4	Return to the Old Miner if the pickaxe is lost.	Receive a replacement Pickaxe.
