Frostmere
Zone Calm / No PvP
Connected to Whisperwood (north return)
Notable features Iron ore nodes, snow-capped trees, Grimjaw, blacksmith forge cottage
Entry requirement None

Frostmere is a snowy calm zone south of Whisperwood. It is the main place for mining Iron Ore and forging copper, iron, and silver tools through Smithing. Unlike the Wilderness, Frostmere does not contain stone or coal nodes. Its mining route is focused on iron ore.

What's Here

Feature Use
Iron ore nodes Mine Iron Ore for Smithing recipes.
Blacksmith Forge Smelt ingots and forge copper, iron, and silver tools and weapons.
Grimjaw Blacksmith NPC who handles smelting, forging, and repairs.
Snowy forest Calm area with no PvP. The snow-capped trees can be chopped for Wood.

Entry

Frostmere has no level requirement — walk in from Whisperwood. It previously required Total Level 20; that gate was removed in a 2026 update. Free accounts can enter.

Requirement Notes
None Open to all levels. Smithing does not count toward Total Level.
Route Enter from Whisperwood.

Mining

Frostmere is the only realm with iron ore nodes — elsewhere, rocks yield Stone or Coal (silver ore rocks are found only in The Dunes). Mining here carries no PvP risk.

Action Location Skill Result
Mine iron ore nodes Frostmere (calm, no PvP) Mining 5 Iron Ore — 50 Mining XP per node

Smithing

Smithing is done at the Blacksmith Forge by Grimjaw (also available at Harun the Forgewright in The Dunes West). Crafting counts down at roughly 1 second per unit, with a short cooldown between crafts. No base tool is consumed — every tier is craftable from scratch.

Smelting

Ingot Cost Smithing XP
Copper Ingot ×10 100 Stone + 50 Coal 100 XP
Iron Ingot ×10 60 Iron Ore + 60 Coal 220 XP
Silver Ingot ×10 40 Silver Ore + 80 Coal 300 XP

Iron ore requires Mining 5, Silver ore requires Mining 20 (silver ore is mined in The Dunes).

Forging

Tool Smithing Level Materials Effect Smithing XP
Copper Axe 0 20 Copper Ingot + 400 Wood 5% faster Woodcutting 400 XP
Iron Axe 10 40 Iron Ingot + 1,000 Wood 10% faster Woodcutting 750 XP
Silver Axe 20 80 Silver Ingot + 2,000 Wood 15% faster Woodcutting 700 XP
Copper Pickaxe 7 28 Copper Ingot + 850 Wood 5% faster Mining 400 XP
Iron Pickaxe 17 60 Iron Ingot + 1,600 Wood 10% faster Mining 750 XP
Silver Pickaxe 27 100 Silver Ingot + 3,000 Wood 15% faster Mining 700 XP
Copper Sword 3 25 Copper Ingot + 600 Wood 23 damage per hit 400 XP
Iron Sword 13 55 Iron Ingot + 1,300 Wood 26 damage per hit 750 XP
Silver Sword 23 90 Silver Ingot + 2,500 Wood 30 damage per hit 700 XP

Tool tiers speed up your swing — they do not change gathering yield or XP. Forged tools carry 4,000 uses. Repairs cost 60% of every material the forge charged (ingots and wood), scaled to missing durability, with at least one of each. The forge also repairs armour made by Kaziir the Armoursmith.

NPCs

NPC Role Notes
Grimjaw Blacksmith Smelts, forges, and repairs tools, weapons and armour at the Blacksmith Forge.

Tips

  • Bring Stone and Coal from elsewhere before smelting — Frostmere's rocks are all iron ore. Its trees can be chopped for Wood.
  • Mine Iron Ore here safely with no PvP risk, then use the forge in the same trip.
  • Smithing XP varies by tier: copper forges pay 400 XP, iron 750 XP, and silver 700 XP. Smithing does not count toward Total Level.
  • Upgrade Axe and Pickaxe first — the faster swing speed makes every future resource trip quicker.
