| Frostmere | |
|---|---|
| Zone | Calm / No PvP |
| Connected to | Whisperwood (north return) |
| Notable features | Iron ore nodes, snow-capped trees, Grimjaw, blacksmith forge cottage, Frost Wolves, the Frost Troll |
| Entry requirement | None |
Frostmere is a snowy calm zone south of Whisperwood. It is the main place for mining Iron Ore and forging copper, iron, and silver tools through Smithing. Unlike the Wilderness, Frostmere does not contain stone or coal nodes. Its mining route is focused on iron ore.
Frostmere is also home to monsters: packs of Frost Wolves roam the snow, and a Frost Troll guards a glade in the south-east. There's still no PvP and no death here — a monster that would finish you off only knocks you out, and you lose nothing.
What's Here
| Feature | Use |
|---|---|
| Mine Iron Ore for Smithing recipes. | |
| Smelt ingots and forge copper, iron, and silver tools and weapons. | |
| Grimjaw | Blacksmith NPC who handles smelting, forging, repairs and salvage, and crafts the limited-time Frostbound Set from Frost Pelts (until 30 November 2026). |
| Snowy forest | No PvP. The snow-capped trees can be chopped for Wood. |
| Frost Wolves | Packs of 7 wolves roaming the realm — 50 Combat XP each, and drops of Frost Pelt, Iron Ore and Coal. |
| Frost Troll | Frostmere's elite, in the south-east glade — 900 HP, 250 Combat XP to everyone who does a real share of the damage, a rare Frost Troll Hood, which makes wolf and troll bites do 15% less damage while you wear it, and the very rare Snow Yak. |
Entry
Frostmere has no level requirement — walk in from Whisperwood. It previously required Total Level 20; that gate was removed in a 2026 update. Free accounts can enter.
| Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|
| None | Open to all levels. Smithing does not count toward Total Level. |
| Route | Enter from Whisperwood. |
Mining
Frostmere is the only realm with iron ore nodes — elsewhere, rocks yield Stone or Coal (silver ore rocks are found only in The Dunes). Mining here carries no PvP risk.
| Action | Location | Skill | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mine iron ore nodes | Frostmere (calm, no PvP) | Mining 5 |
Monsters
| Monster | HP | Hits for | Combat XP | Drops | Respawn |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frost Wolf (7) | 90 | 4–13 | 50 (killing blow) | Frost Pelt 1 in 4 · 1–2 Iron Ore 1 in 8 · 1–2 Coal 1 in 8 | 45 seconds |
| Frost Troll (1) | 900 | 10–22 | 250 to everyone with at least 10% of its damage | 3 Frost Pelt + 4–6 Iron Ore + 3–5 Coal to the top whole-fight damager who qualifies (see Rewards) · Medium Scroll 1 in 250, Frost Troll Hood 1 in 1,000 and Snow Yak 1 in 50,000 for everyone paid its XP who is still in the fight | 10 minutes |
- Knockouts, not deaths: a hit that would take your last point of health knocks you out instead. You wake at full health on the arrival strip under the Whisperwood arrows with nothing lost, and the monsters ignore you for 10 seconds (less if you start swinging).
- Potions and food work here: health and shield potions, food and dishes can all be used in Frostmere.
- Bows work here against the monsters (never against players). The Frost Troll can only be shot from inside its glade or right next to it.
- Safe areas: no monster enters the clearing around the Blacksmith Forge or the arrival strip, so smithing is as safe as ever. A glowing ice line and small ice crystals mark the edges of both, and while you're inside one the blue shield shows on your name tag. You can't attack from a safe area: step past the line to fight. A swing from inside tells you "You can't fight from a safe area."
- Wolves hunt in packs, but no more than 3 will chase one player. They keep out of the troll's glade, and the troll never leaves it.
- Frostmere monster kills count toward the Monster Hunter achievements and Guild Seasons, but Frost Wolves don't count as "wolves" for Daily Quests.
Smithing
Smithing is done at the Blacksmith Forge by Grimjaw (also available at Harun the Forgewright in The Dunes West). Crafting counts down at roughly 1 second per unit, with a short cooldown between crafts. No base tool is consumed — every tier is craftable from scratch.
Smelting
| Ingot | Cost | Smithing XP |
|---|---|---|
| 100 Stone + 50 Coal | 100 XP | |
| 60 Iron Ore + 60 Coal | 220 XP | |
| 40 Silver Ore + 80 Coal | 300 XP |
Iron ore requires Mining 5, Silver ore requires Mining 20 (silver ore is mined in The Dunes).
Forging
| Tool | Smithing Level | Materials | Effect | Smithing XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 20 Copper Ingot + 400 |
5% faster Woodcutting | 400 XP | |
| 10 | 40 Iron Ingot + 1,000 |
10% faster Woodcutting | 750 XP | |
| 20 | 80 Silver Ingot + 2,000 |

| 17 | 60 Iron Ingot + 1,600 |
10% faster Mining | 750 XP | |
| 27 | 100 Silver Ingot + 3,000 |
15% faster Mining | 1,100 XP | |
| 3 | 25 Copper Ingot + 600 |
23 damage per hit | 400 XP | |
| 13 | 55 Iron Ingot + 1,300 |
26 damage per hit | 750 XP | |
| 23 | 90 Silver Ingot + 2,500 |
30 damage per hit | 1,100 XP |
Every forged tier swings faster; iron and silver tools also have a chance of a double resource and pay bonus XP (see Tool tier perks). Forged tools carry 4,000 uses. Repairs cost 60% of every material the forge charged (ingots and wood), scaled to missing durability, with at least one of each. The forge also repairs armour made by Kaziir the Armoursmith, and can salvage gear you no longer need back into 40% of its ingots.
NPCs
| NPC | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Grimjaw | Blacksmith | Smelts, forges, repairs and salvages tools, weapons and armour at the Blacksmith Forge. |
Connections
| Direction | Destination | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| North | Whisperwood | Return route to the calm forest zone. |
Tips
- Bring Stone and Coal from elsewhere before smelting — Frostmere's rocks are all iron ore. Its trees can be chopped for Wood, and Frost Wolves and the Frost Troll drop a little Coal and Iron Ore.
- Mine Iron Ore here with no PvP risk, then use the forge in the same trip. Keep an eye out for wolf packs — they can knock you out, but you never lose anything.
- Smithing XP varies by tier: copper forges pay 400 XP, iron 750 XP, and silver 1,100 XP. Smithing does not count toward Total Level.
- Upgrade Axe and Pickaxe first — the faster swing speed makes every future resource trip quicker, and iron and silver tiers add a chance of double resources.
- Team up for the Frost Troll: everyone who deals at least 10% of its HP gets the full 250 Combat XP.
