The Quartermaster is an early combat NPC on the Mainland. New players visit the Quartermaster to receive a sword and learn the basics of fighting creatures in the Wilderness.

The Quartermaster is one of the first NPCs connected to Combat progression.

The starter sword deals only 5 damage — deliberately tiny since an August 2026 update — so forging a better blade at a blacksmith is close to mandatory for serious combat.

Step	Action	Result
1	Get a Sword from the Quartermaster.	You can fight Wilderness creatures.
2	Train against Wild Zombies.	Earn Combat XP.
3	Hunt Wild Dragons when ready.	Earn more Combat XP and a chance at Dragon Mount (free-to-play accounts get no mount drops).
4	Forge a copper, iron ( Lvl 2 Sword), or silver sword at a blacksmith.	Hit harder: starter 5 damage, copper 23, iron 26, silver 30. No sword tier changes Combat XP per kill.
