Sorrel the Stablemaster is an NPC who trains player mounts to increase their speed. Wearing a straw hat and carrying a pitchfork, Sorrel operates a training pen in the main world where players can bring their mounts for incremental speed training sessions.
Every mount in Kintara starts at the same **25% base speed boost**. Sorrel trains them higher through paid sessions, up to a hard cap of **55%** — the highest speed any mount has ever achieved. Training is fair, transparent, and tied permanently to each individual mount.
How mount training works
- Find Sorrel in the main world (look for the straw hat and pitchfork).
- Talk to him and select a mount to train.
- Drop the mount into his training pen (double-click the mount in your inventory to load it).
- Pay 10 Gold per training session.
- Receive +5% speed to that mount.
Training mechanics
- One mount at a time — Sorrel trains one mount per session. Once finished, you can bring another.
- Incremental progress — Each session adds exactly +5% speed. Going from 25% base to 55% cap takes 6 sessions = 60 Gold total.
- Per-mount training — Speed is trained onto that specific mount. Each mount you own can be trained independently to 55%.
- Permanent and server-enforced — Trained speed is stamped onto the mount and enforced server-side. It shows everywhere: inventory, bank, trades, wagers, and marketplace listings.
- Trades with you — If you trade, sell, or gift a trained mount, the trained speed travels with it. A 55% mount is a valuable, reliable asset.
Speed system
All mounts now use a fair, equal-opportunity speed system:
- Base speed: 25% — Every mount starts here. Rich players, new players, everyone equal.
- Training: +5% per session — Sessions cost 10 Gold each and stack. No shortcuts, no wallet-based advantages.
- Hard cap: 55% — The maximum any mount can reach. This is the highest speed Kintara has ever offered.
- Transparent and tradeable — Trained mounts are real assets you can trade or sell. A well-trained mount is worth more because it's faster and stays faster.
Why this system
The old speed-creep model made every new mount faster than the last, creating an unfair PvP landscape where wallet size mattered more than skill. This new system:
- Makes all mounts equal at the start
- Rewards player investment (10 Gold per session, patience)
- Removes pay-to-win mechanics
- Creates a fair, skill-based competitive environment
- Makes trained mounts valuable for trades and sales
Tips
- All your existing mounts are now set to 25% base and are fully trainable to 55%.
- The Rocket Mount (originally 45%) is now 25% base like all others — train it if you want it to reach 55%.
- Training sticks to that exact mount — if you want two fast mounts, you'll need to train both separately.
- Trained mounts are valuable in marketplace sales and trades.
- Budget 60 Gold to fully train a mount from base (25%) to cap (55%).
