Sorrel the Stablemaster is an NPC who manages all aspects of mount mastery — from incremental speed training to rare cosmetic gilding. Wearing a straw hat and carrying a pitchfork, Sorrel operates a training pen in the main world where players can bring their mounts to increase their power or test their luck.
Every mount in Kintara starts at the same **25% base speed boost**. Sorrel trains them higher through paid sessions up to a hard cap of **55%**, or offers a high-stakes gamble to transform mounts into rare **Gilded versions** through a mount-burning ritual. Training is fair and transparent. Gilding is pure luck.
Mount Training
How mount training works
- Find Sorrel in the main world (look for the straw hat and pitchfork).
- Talk to him and select a mount to train.
- Drop the mount into his training pen (double-click the mount in your inventory to load it).
- Pay 10 Gold per training session.
- Receive +5% speed to that mount.
Training mechanics
- One mount at a time — Sorrel trains one mount per session. Once finished, you can bring another.
- Incremental progress — Each session adds exactly +5% speed. Going from 25% base to 55% cap takes 6 sessions = 60 Gold total.
- Per-mount training — Speed is trained onto that specific mount. Each mount you own can be trained independently to 55%.
- Permanent and server-enforced — Trained speed is stamped onto the mount and enforced server-side. It shows everywhere: inventory, bank, trades, wagers, and marketplace listings.
- Trades with you — If you trade, sell, or gift a trained mount, the trained speed travels with it. A 55% mount is a valuable, reliable asset.
Speed system
All mounts now use a fair, equal-opportunity speed system:
- Base speed: 25% — Every mount starts here. Rich players, new players, everyone equal.
- Training: +5% per session — Sessions cost 10 Gold each and stack. No shortcuts, no wallet-based advantages.
- Hard cap: 55% — The maximum any mount can reach. This is the highest speed Kintara has ever offered.
- Transparent and tradeable — Trained mounts are real assets you can trade or sell. A well-trained mount is worth more because it's faster and stays faster.
Why this system
The old speed-creep model made every new mount faster than the last, creating an unfair PvP landscape where wallet size mattered more than skill. This new system:
- Makes all mounts equal at the start
- Rewards player investment (10 Gold per session, patience)
- Removes pay-to-win mechanics
- Creates a fair, skill-based competitive environment
- Makes trained mounts valuable for trades and sales
Mount Gilding
Sorrel also performs a high-stakes ritual to transform up to 3 identical mounts into a rare Gilded Mount. This is a true gamble — all mounts are consumed, win or lose.
How gilding works
- Bring 1–3 mounts of the same breed to Sorrel
- Slot them into the gilding ritual interface
- All mounts are consumed, win or lose
- Success: receive one Gilded Mount of that breed
- Failure: all mounts turn to ash
Success odds
| Mounts slotted | Success chance | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 mount | 20% | Risky — 80% chance to lose your mount |
| 2 mounts | 40% | Better odds, but double the cost in mounts |
| 3 mounts | 60% | Highest odds, but sacrifice 3 mounts for one Gilded |
Even with 3 mounts, success is never guaranteed.
Gilding rules
- Identical breeds only — all slotted mounts must be the same breed (3 Wolves or 3 Dragons, not mixed)
- All mounts consumed — no matter the outcome, every slotted mount is destroyed
- No crossbreeding — different mount types cannot be combined
- One Gilded per ritual — success produces exactly one Gilded Mount of that breed
- Golden bloodline helps — mounts with golden qualities or higher inherent rarity are rumored to have better odds, but even legendary mounts can fail
Gilded Mount stats
Gilded Mounts have **identical stats and speed to their base counterparts** — the main difference is cosmetics (shiny gold appearance) and extreme rarity.
- Base speed and training potential remain the same
- Can still be trained like normal mounts (normal speed training applies)
- Valuable for collectors and bragging rights
- Highly tradeable for premium prices
Tips
- Training: All your existing mounts are now set to 25% base and are fully trainable to 55%.
- Training: Budget 60 Gold to fully train a mount from base (25%) to cap (55%).
- Training: Trained mounts are valuable in marketplace sales and trades — a 55% mount is a real asset.
- Gilding: Only gild if you can afford to lose the mounts — it's a true gamble.
- Gilding: Three mounts at 60% is the "safest" option, but you're risking 3 mounts for 1 Gilded. Do the math.
- Gilding: Gilded mounts are extremely rare and valuable — they show off both luck and commitment.
- Both: The Rocket Mount (originally 45%) is now 25% base like all others — train or gild it like any other mount.
