Iron Armor Set is the first armor tier in Kintara, consisting of four protective pieces that each reduce the damage you take. A complete set grants 10% damage reduction and requires Combat 15 to equip any piece.
Iron armor represents the entry into serious combat preparation — the first real defense against high-level threats.
Complete Set
The Iron Armor Set consists of four pieces, each craftable separately:
| Piece | Smithing req | Damage reduction | Durability | Cost (per piece) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Helmet | 14 | 2% | 2,500 | 40 iron ingot + 40 molten rock + 5 brute horn |
| Iron Body Armor | 20 | 4% | 2,500 | 50 iron ingot + 50 molten rock + 10 brute horn |
| Iron Legguards | 18 | 3% | 2,500 | 50 iron ingot + 50 molten rock + 10 brute horn |
| Iron Boots | 16 | 1% | 2,500 | 25 iron ingot + 25 molten rock + 2 brute horn |
Total cost for full set: 165 iron ingots + 165 molten rock + 27 brute horns
Set Bonus
Wearing all four pieces together grants:
- 10% damage reduction total (2% + 4% + 3% + 1%)
- 2,500 durability on each piece
- 100% coverage (head, torso, legs, feet)
There is no extra bonus for completing the set: the 10% is simply the four pieces added together. Partial sets still help — each piece adds its own reduction independently.
Damage Reduction
Armor no longer widens the shield pool — it reduces the damage you take instead. The shield pool stays at a fixed 100 points regardless of armor; restore it with Shield Potions.
| Configuration | Damage reduction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| No armor | 0% | King Scorpia, Venomweaver cave hazards, Giant Scorpions and Magma Brutes deal 1.5× damage to unarmored players |
| 1 Iron piece | 1–4% | Depends on the piece; any piece also removes the unarmored penalty |
| Full Iron set (4 pieces) | 10% | 2% helmet + 4% body + 3% legs + 1% boots |
| Full Silver set (4 pieces) | 15% | Comparison to higher tier |
Durability & Repair
Each armor piece has 2,500 durability. Every hit you take costs 1 durability point on each piece you're wearing.
All worn pieces wear simultaneously — a full set consumes 4 durability points per hit across the set, but each individual piece still survives 2,500 hits. Wearing the full set does not make any single piece break sooner. A piece that reaches 0 durability breaks and is destroyed, so repair it before then.
Repair at Grimjaw in Frostmere or Harun the Forgewright in Dunes West (crafting is done at Kaziir the Armoursmith's):
- Repair cost: 60% of the full forge bill (ingots, Molten Rock and Brute Horn), scaled by durability loss, each material rounded up (minimum 1)
- Example: Iron Helmet at 50% durability ≈ 12 iron ingots + 12 Molten Rock + 2 Brute Horns to repair
Crafting Progression
Iron is the first of Kintara's two armor tiers:
| Tier | Armor type | Damage reduction (full set) | Combat req | Smithing req | Next tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| First | Iron | 10% | 15 | 14–20 | Silver |
| Second | Silver | 15% | 25 | 24–30 | — |
Iron armor is a significant power jump from wearing no armor: a full Iron set cuts incoming damage from mobs and players by 10% and removes the 1.5× unarmored penalty.
Sourcing Materials
To craft a complete Iron Armor Set:
| Material | Amount | Farming location | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Ingot | 165 | Smelt 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal per ingot at Grimjaw's or Harun's forge | 990 Iron Ore + 990 Coal in total |
| Molten Rock | 165 | Lava fishing at Emberstone | One per catch, with the Fire-Resistant Fishing Rod |
| Brute Horn | 27 | Kill Magma Brute at Emberstone | 1 in 5 drop rate; ~135 kills on average |
Trading & Marketplace
Iron Armor pieces can only be listed on the Marketplace when undamaged (100% durability):
- Damaged pieces: Cannot be listed on the marketplace; player-to-player trades accept them, and the piece keeps its durability
- Repair first: Repair at Grimjaw or Harun to restore to "like new" condition
- Undamaged pieces: Fully tradeable and valuable
Delete the bullet entirely. The surrounding list (damaged pieces can't be listed; repair first; undamaged pieces are fully tradeable) already states the live rule.
Combat Considerations
| Scenario | Details |
|---|---|
| Damage reduction | Cuts incoming damage from mobs and players by up to 10% (full set) |
| Unarmored penalty | With no armor at all, the four late-game mob families deal 1.5× damage; any piece removes this |
| Heat immunity | Does NOT protect from The Dunes heat (heat ignores armor and shield) |
| Durability drain rate | All worn pieces lose 1 durability per hit simultaneously |
| Tier position | Iron is the first of the two armor tiers; Silver is superior |
| Partial sets | Still provide their reductions; no penalty for wearing incomplete set |
| Relics | Every Iron piece is eligible for a Relic from Qadim the Relicweaver |
| Death | Worn armor is lost on death: it drops into your tombstone in the Wilderness, Emberstone or the Dunes, and is destroyed outright in the Glade Cave |
Set Acquisition Timeline
| Progression milestone | Details |
|---|---|
| Combat 15 required | Before you can equip ANY Iron armor piece |
| Iron Helmet first | Lowest Smithing gate (14); second-cheapest bill |
| Complete first-tier set | After crafting all 4 pieces |
| Ready for Silver | Continue farming ingots/materials for Silver armor (Smithing 24+) |
Most players craft Iron Helmet → Boots → Legguards → Body Armor in that order (the order of their Smithing gates; Boots have the cheapest bill, Helmet the second-cheapest).
