Pickaxe
Type Tool
Gathered at Given by the Old Miner in the Mines
Skill Mining
Used for Iron tier (Iron Pickaxe) forged from scratch via Smithing

Pickaxe is the gathering tool used for Mining. New characters receive a basic Pickaxe (shown in game as the Starter Pickaxe) free from the Old Miner in The Mine. The other starter tools come from their own NPCs — the Lumberjack gives the Axe, the Old Fisher gives the Starter Fishing Rod, the Site Foreman gives the Hammer, and the Quartermaster issues the Sword.

Use

  • Equip the Pickaxe in a hotbar slot (keys 1–6).
  • Use it on rock nodes — what a rock gives depends on the region: Wilderness rocks yield Stone and Coal, and Frostmere rocks yield Iron Ore (Mining 5 required).
  • The Starter Pickaxe never wears out, but it does nothing in The DunesSilver Ore there needs Mining 20 and a forged pickaxe (copper or better).

Acquisition

  • Free from the Old Miner in the Mines.
  • The Iron Pickaxe (iron tier) is a separate craft via Smithing — it is forged from scratch, gathers the same yield and XP, and swings faster. See Smithing for the full copper → iron → silver ladder.
