How to get Smelted from Iron Ore + Coal

Iron Ingot is a mid-tier crafting material created by smelting Iron Ore and Coal at any furnace. Iron Ingots are used to forge mid-tier tools and the first armor in Kintara — solid, reliable gear for players who've progressed past early game.

Iron Ingots represent the bridge between basic copper gear and end-game silver equipment.

Smelting

Iron Ore is smelted into Iron Ingots at any furnace (Frostmere or Dunes West). No Smithing level required to smelt.

Input Output XP Time
60 Iron Ore + 60 Coal 10 Iron Ingot 220 XP Instant

Each smelt yields 10 ingots instantly. No cooldown between smelts.

Uses

Iron Ingots are used for mid-tier crafting:

Item Ingots required Smithing req Notes
Iron Sword 280 13 Mid-tier melee weapon — 25 base damage
Iron Axe 280 13 Mid-tier gathering tool — 10% speed bonus
Iron Pickaxe 280 13 Mid-tier mining tool — 10% speed bonus
Iron Helmet 2 14 +5 shield per piece (head armor)
Iron Body Armor 4 20 +5 shield per piece (torso armor)
Iron Legguards 3 18 +5 shield per piece (leg armor)
Iron Boots 1 16 +5 shield per piece (foot armor)

A full Iron armor set (4 pieces) requires 10 ingots total and grants +20 shield bonus.

Crafting Progression

Iron Ingots are the mid-tier in the crafting hierarchy:

Tier Ingot Smelting cost Tool Smithing req Armor Smithing req Speed bonus
Low Copper Ingot 60 Copper Ore + 60 Coal 0–7 N/A +5%
Mid Iron Ingot 60 Iron Ore + 60 Coal 10–17 14–20 +10%
High Silver Ingot 60 Silver Ore + 60 Coal 20–27 24–30 +15%

Iron tools hit faster than copper and armor provides meaningful protection. A full Iron loadout is a significant power jump from starter gear.

Sourcing Iron Ore

To create Iron Ingots, you need Iron Ore:

Location Requirement Notes
Wilderness Mining 5 Primary gathering location (safest early access)
Frostmere Mining 5 Secondary location; cold biome
The Dunes (West) Mining 5 Tertiary location; requires heat management

Iron Ore is available in multiple zones. You can gather wherever is most convenient.

Repair Costs

Iron tools and armor can be repaired at any blacksmith (Grimjaw in Frostmere, Harun in Dunes West):

Repair scenario Ingot cost Notes
50% durability loss ~60% of craft cost (scaled) Cost scales to damage taken
100% durability loss (broken) Full craft cost Repair first before trading/selling

Minimum repair cost is 1 ingot. Damaged gear cannot be traded or listed on the marketplace — you must repair it first.

Stack Size

Iron Ingots stack up to **10,000** in a single inventory slot. Large crafting projects can be completed without inventory management issues.
