Cooked Herring is the cooked form of Herring. It was originally called Cooked Fish Meat, and older guides may still use that name. Since the fishing update each fish species cooks into its own item (Cooked Trout, Cooked Bass, Cooked Tuna, Cooked Swordfish); Cooked Herring is the Herring tier, and it is the one cooked fish used for Guild Life upkeep.
Cooking
| Action | Location | Skill | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cook raw Herring + 1 Wood at a Roast Pit | Any roast pit | Cooking (125 XP) |
Each cook consumes 1 Wood and can fail — the burn chance starts at 30% at low Cooking levels and slides down to 5% at level 40. A failed cook produces worthless Burnt Herring instead, which pays no XP.
Uses
| Use | Required amount | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Food | 1 Cooked Herring | Heals 5 HP when eaten. Like all food, it can only be eaten in combat areas — the Wilderness realms and Emberstone — and never in The Dunes, where the heat blocks every cooked fish and only cacti heals |
| Guild Life upkeep | 500 Cooked Herring | Adds a quarter-day of Guild Life; the full set (1,000 Wood + 750 Stone + 500 Coal + 500 Cooked Herring) adds one day |
| Bait trade-up | 10 Herring (raw or cooked) | 5 Trout Bait at the Old Fisher or Dockhand Maren — raw Herring is spent first |
| The Angler raffle | 500 Cooked Herring per ticket | Cooked Herring is worth 1 point (Trout 5, Bass 8, Tuna 9, Swordfish 10) and 500 points buys one Angler Outfit raffle ticket, so any mix of cooked fish works |
History: Cooked Fish Meat was once part of the Traveling Merchant's Gold bundle. The merchant no longer trades.
