Iron Legguards is a first-tier armor piece that protects your legs and reduces the damage you take. It is the third piece in the Iron armor set and requires Combat 15 to equip.
All armor is crafted by Kaziir the Armoursmith in The Dunes through Smithing and uses ingots plus desert materials from Emberstone.
How to get
Craft at Kaziir the Armoursmith's house in The Dunes. Grimjaw's anvil in Frostmere and Harun the Forgewright's forge in Dunes West handle repairs only — Kaziir sells plate, he does not take it back.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Smithing level | 18 |
| Combat to wear | 15 |
| Ingredients | 50 Iron Ingot + 50 Molten Rock + 10 Brute Horn |
| Crafting time | ~30 seconds (25-second cooldown between crafts) |
| Durability | 2,500 hits taken |
Stats
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Damage reduction | 3% |
| Durability per hit | 1 point per hit taken |
| Repair cost | 60% of the full forging cost (ingots, Molten Rock and Brute Horn), scaled by durability loss (minimum 1 of each material) |
Damage Reduction
Iron Legguards reduces the damage you take from mobs and other players by 3%. Armor no longer widens the shield pool; it reduces damage instead:
- Shield pool: fixed at 100 points regardless of armor; restore it with Shield Potions
- Full iron set: 10% damage reduction (4 pieces)
- Full silver set: 15% damage reduction (4 pieces)
Wearing no armor at all is risky: King Scorpia, the Venomweaver cave hazards, Giant Scorpions and Magma Brutes all deal 1.5× damage to unarmored players. Wearing any armor piece removes that penalty and applies your damage reduction instead.
Armor Set
Iron Legguards is one of four armor slots in the iron tier:
| Piece | Smithing req | Damage reduction | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Helmet | 14 | 2% | 40 iron ingot + 40 molten rock + 5 brute horn |
| Iron Body Armor | 20 | 4% | 50 iron ingot + 50 molten rock + 10 brute horn |
| Iron Legguards | 18 | 3% | 50 iron ingot + 50 molten rock + 10 brute horn |
| Iron Boots | 16 | 1% | 25 iron ingot + 25 molten rock + 2 brute horn |
Wearing multiple pieces adds their reductions. A full iron set (all 4 pieces) gives 10% damage reduction total.
Durability & Repair
Iron Legguards has 2,500 durability. Every hit you take (while wearing it) costs 1 durability point. Every worn piece loses a point on the same hit, so a set wears down together — wearing more pieces never makes any single piece break sooner. A piece that reaches 0 durability breaks and is destroyed, so repair it before then.
Repair at Grimjaw in Frostmere or Harun the Forgewright in Dunes West:
- Repair cost: 60% of the full forging bill (ingots, Molten Rock and Brute Horn), scaled to durability lost, each material rounded up (minimum 1 per repair)
- Example: At 50% durability loss, repair costs about 15 iron ingots + 15 Molten Rock + 3 Brute Horns
Trading & Marketplace
Iron Legguards can only be listed on the Marketplace when undamaged (100% durability):
- Damaged pieces cannot be listed on the marketplace
- Player-to-player trades accept damaged pieces, and the piece keeps its durability
- Repair first at any blacksmith (Grimjaw or Harun), then it lists as new
- Undamaged pieces are valuable and fully tradeable
Armor Tiers
Iron is the first armor tier. Silver is higher:
| Tier | Pieces | Damage reduction (full set) | Combat req | Smithing req (legs) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iron | Head, body, legs, feet | 10% | 15 | 18 |
| Silver | Head, body, legs, feet | 15% | 25 | 28 |
Silver armor gives 1.5× the damage reduction but requires higher progression.
Crafting Materials
| Material | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Ingot | 50 | Smelt 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal per ingot at Grimjaw's or Harun's forge |
| Molten Rock | 50 | Lava fishing at Emberstone with the Fire-Resistant Fishing Rod (one per catch) |
| Brute Horn | 10 | Kill Magma Brute at Emberstone (1 in 5 drop rate) |
Iron Legguards shares the largest forge bill in the Iron set with Iron Body Armor, though its Smithing requirement is lower.
Combat Considerations
| Scenario | Details |
|---|---|
| Damage reduction | Reduces incoming damage from mobs and players by 3% (10% with the full iron set) |
| Unarmored penalty | With no armor worn at all, King Scorpia, Venomweaver cave hazards, Giant Scorpions and Magma Brutes deal 1.5× damage |
| Heat immunity | Does NOT protect from The Dunes heat (heat ignores armor and shield) |
| Stun resistance | Armor alone does not reduce stun duration |
| Durability drain | Every worn piece loses 1 durability per hit taken; a piece at 0 breaks and is destroyed |
| Relics | Qadim the Relicweaver can weave a Relic onto this piece, worn or carried |
| Death | Worn armor is lost on death: it drops into your tombstone in the Wilderness, Emberstone or the Dunes, and is destroyed outright in the Glade Cave |
