* Ingots only: salvage never gives back the Wood, Molten Rock or Brute Horn from the recipe, and pays no Smithing XP.
* Can't be salvaged: the tool or sword you're holding, armour you're wearing, starter gear, and any item with a relic socketed — melting it would destroy the relic, so take that item off the table by keeping it.
* If the ingots wouldn't fit in your backpack, the salvage is refused and nothing is used up.
* Daily limit: you can salvage up to 25 items per day. The count resets at 00:00 UTC.

Armor durability: 1,000 uses per piece. Repair cost is roughly 60% of the original craft cost, scaled to damage taken (minimum 1 ingot).
For example, an Iron Axe at half durability returns 8 Iron Ingots instead of 16. Repairing an item and then salvaging it never comes out ahead — salvage is for clearing out gear you've outgrown.

Identical tools, swords, and armor pieces now stack in the bank — up to 10,000 per stack. Only true matches stack (same item, same durability/wear level), so no durability data is lost by stacking. Right-click a stack to split it out one piece at a time. Carried bags are unaffected — gear still takes one slot each out in the world.
Identical tools, swords, and armor pieces now stack in the bank — up to 10,000 per stack. Only undamaged copies stack: a piece that has taken any wear keeps its own slot (so no durability is ever lost), and a piece carrying a Relic never stacks. Right-click a stack to split it out one piece at a time. Carried bags are unaffected — gear still takes one slot each out in the world.

The guild bank (see Guilds) also accepts gear as of a recent Guilds update — swords, armor, pickaxes, and axes can now be deposited alongside gold and materials, up to 10,000 per stack, with wear preserved exactly as deposited. The guild bank is slightly more forgiving than a personal bank: pieces at the same durability share a stack there, where a personal bank stacks only undamaged copies.

Tips
* Smelt ingots in bulk before forging sessions — batch crafting eats through ingredients fast now that you're not clicking per craft.
* Smelt ingots in bulk before forging sessions — at about 1 second per ingot with ×10 batching, stockpiling is nearly instant now compared to the old 30-second rate.
* Iron and Silver tools require reaching the relevant Smithing level before you can forge them — level up gradually through Copper tools/armor first.
* Iron and Silver tools require reaching the relevant Smithing level before you can forge them — level up through smelting and the Copper tools first (there is no copper armor; the first armor piece, the Iron Helmet, needs Smithing 14).
* Armor now grants real XP on craft (previously a dead end), so don't skip crafting a full set purely for the XP even if you don't plan to wear it yet.
* Armor grants real XP on craft, so a full set is worth forging for the XP even if you don't plan to wear it yet.
* Keep gear undamaged if you intend to trade or sell it — repair before listing.
* Keep gear undamaged if you intend to sell it on the Marketplace — repair before listing.
* Don't confuse Starter sword's low 5 damage for a bug — it's an intentional cut (from 20, on 6 August 2026) meant to make the Copper upgrade feel meaningful.
* Iron and silver tools are worth the jump: on top of the faster swing they have a chance of double resources and pay bonus gathering or Combat XP (see Tool tier perks).
* Outgrown a tier? Salvage the old tool for 40% of its ingots instead of letting it gather dust.
* Smelting or forging 100 items unlocks the Anvil Regular achievement (4,000 Smithing XP).

Smithing (Skill)
Activity Smelting ore into ingots and forging Copper/Iron/Silver tools at Grimjaw (Frostmere) or Harun (Dunes West); crafting Iron/Silver armor at Kaziir (The Dunes)
Tool required Frostmere forge · Dunes West forge
XP per action Varies by item (see tables below)
Max level 40 (same cap as every skill)
Counts to Total Level No — Smithing does not count toward Total Level

Smithing was overhauled in the Dunes update (v5.3). The old single "Lvl 2 tool" upgrade track has been replaced with a full copper → iron → silver ore-tier progression covering both tools and armor. There is no Total Level requirement to start Smithing — each recipe is gated only by your Smithing level. Forging is identical at Grimjaw's anvil in Frostmere or Harun's forge in Dunes West; armor is crafted at Kaziir the Armoursmith's armoury in The Dunes. The Dunes are closed to free accounts (holding under 1,000 $KINS), so they smith at Frostmere.

Update: This page previously described the old "Lvl 2 Axe/Pickaxe/Sword via Metal" system. That system has been retired. Smithing is now a fully tracked skill alongside Fishing, Cooking, Combat, Mining, and Woodcutting — but it remains the bonus sixth skill: it does not count toward your Total Level.

Unlocking

Requirement Detail
No unlock gate Smithing has no Total Level requirement — each recipe is gated by your Smithing level (see tables below)
Forge locations Grimjaw in Frostmere · Harun the Forgewright in Dunes West (identical service) · armor at Kaziir the Armoursmith in The Dunes

Smelting

Smelting converts raw ore into ingots. No Smithing level requirement to smelt. Smelts are priced per ingot and can be batched ×1, ×5, or ×10 (10 max per batch).

Update: Smelting used to take 30 seconds per pour. It's now about 1 second per ingot, and the forge supports batch smelting — ×1, ×5, or ×10 on any stackable smelt.
Ingot Materials per ingot XP per ingot Time per ingot
Copper Ingot 10 Stone + 5 Coal 10 XP ~1 second
Iron Ingot 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal 22 XP ~1 second
Silver Ingot 4 Silver Ore + 8 Coal 30 XP ~1 second

A ×10 batch therefore pays 100/220/300 XP for copper/iron/silver. (The 450 XP figure previously listed for silver was never the rate — the old fixed pour paid 300.)

Forging Tools

Tools are crafted from scratch — no base tool is consumed. Forging now shares the same ~1-second-per-unit pace as smelting (reduced from the earlier 30-second cooldown).

Tier Tool Smithing level Materials XP
Copper Copper Axe 0 20 Copper Ingots + 400 Wood 400 XP
Copper Sword 3 25 Copper Ingots + 600 Wood 400 XP
Copper Pickaxe 7 28 Copper Ingots + 850 Wood 400 XP
Iron Iron Axe 10 40 Iron Ingots + 1,000 Wood 750 XP
Iron Sword 13 55 Iron Ingots + 1,300 Wood 750 XP
Iron Pickaxe 17 60 Iron Ingots + 1,600 Wood 750 XP
Silver Silver Axe 20 80 Silver Ingots + 2,000 Wood 700 XP
Silver Sword 23 90 Silver Ingots + 2,500 Wood 700 XP
Silver Pickaxe 27 100 Silver Ingots + 3,000 Wood 700 XP

Tool Stats

Tool tier Sword damage Durability
Starter 5 — (never wears)
Copper 23 4,000 uses
Iron 26 4,000 uses
Silver 30 4,000 uses

Strength Potion adds a flat +10 damage on top of any tier.

Tool tier perks

Every forged tier swings faster than the starter tool — copper 5%, iron 10% and silver 15%. Iron and silver tools also pay extra in the activity they're made for:

Tier Swing speed Axe / Pickaxe: chance of a double resource Axe / Pickaxe: bonus Woodcutting / Mining XP Sword: bonus Combat XP per monster kill
Starter — — — —
Copper 5% faster — — —
Iron 10% faster 10% +5% +5%
Silver 15% faster 20% +10% +10%
 • Double resource: each swing that gathers has that chance of giving 2 instead of 1.
 • Bonus XP: added to the XP you get when a tree is felled or a rock is mined out, or when you kill a monster with the sword.
 • A tool only helps its own job — a silver pickaxe does nothing for chopping.
 • The bonus is worked out on the base amount, before relic, guild and $KINS bonuses are added on top.
 • Sword damage is set by the damage table above, not by perks.
Balance Pass: The Starter sword used to hit for 20, close enough to Copper's 23 that the first rung of the weapon ladder was pointless. It was cut to 5 on 6 August 2026, so that Copper is the first real upgrade. Copper (23), Iron (26), and Silver (30) are unchanged. Tool durability was separately rebalanced from 7,000 to 4,000 in a 2026-08-31 update.

Armor is crafted at Kaziir's armoury in The Dunes, not at the tool forges. Worn armor is repaired at the forges (Grimjaw or Harun).

Iron Armor (requires Combat 15 to wear)

Piece Smithing level Materials XP
Helmet 14 40 Iron Ingots + 40 Molten Rock + 5 Brute Horn 280 XP
Body 20 50 Iron Ingots + 50 Molten Rock + 10 Brute Horn 350 XP
Legguards 18 50 Iron Ingots + 50 Molten Rock + 10 Brute Horn 350 XP
Boots 16 25 Iron Ingots + 25 Molten Rock + 2 Brute Horn 175 XP
Full set — 165 Iron Ingots + 165 Molten Rock + 27 Brute Horn 1,155 XP

Armor XP is 7 XP per ingot in the recipe.

Silver Armor (requires Combat 25 to wear)

Piece Smithing level Materials XP
Helmet 24 80 Silver Ingots + 60 Molten Rock + 15 Brute Horn 560 XP
Body 30 100 Silver Ingots + 80 Molten Rock + 25 Brute Horn 700 XP
Legguards 28 75 Silver Ingots + 70 Molten Rock + 25 Brute Horn 525 XP
Boots 26 40 Silver Ingots + 20 Molten Rock + 10 Brute Horn 280 XP
Full set — 295 Silver Ingots + 230 Molten Rock + 75 Brute Horn 2,065 XP

Armor durability: 2,500 uses per piece (rebalanced from 1,000 in a 2026-08-31 update) — each worn piece spends 1 durability per hit taken. Repair cost is roughly 60% of the original craft cost, scaled to damage taken (minimum 1 ingot).

Salvage

Got a forged tool or armour piece you no longer need? The forge's Salvage tab melts it back down into some of the ingots it was made from. Salvage at Grimjaw in Frostmere or Harun in Dunes West — you have to be standing at the forge.

 • Return: 40% of the ingots in the item's recipe (rounded down) at full durability.
 • Worn gear returns less: the return is scaled by the durability the item has left, rounded down. An item too worn to return even one ingot (a broken one included) can't be salvaged — it's refused, not destroyed.
 • Ingots only: salvage never gives back the Wood, Molten Rock or Brute Horn from the recipe, and pays no Smithing XP.
 • Can't be salvaged: the tool or sword you're holding, armour you're wearing, starter gear, and any item with a relic socketed — melting it would destroy the relic, so take that item off the table by keeping it.
 • If the ingots wouldn't fit in your backpack, the salvage is refused and nothing is used up.
 • Daily limit: you can salvage up to 25 items per day. The count resets at 00:00 UTC.
Item Recipe ingots Salvage at full durability
Copper Axe 20 Copper Ingots 8 Copper Ingots
Copper Sword 25 Copper Ingots 10 Copper Ingots
Copper Pickaxe 28 Copper Ingots 11 Copper Ingots
Iron Axe 40 Iron Ingots 16 Iron Ingots
Iron Sword 55 Iron Ingots 22 Iron Ingots
Iron Pickaxe 60 Iron Ingots 24 Iron Ingots
Silver Axe 80 Silver Ingots 32 Silver Ingots
Silver Sword 90 Silver Ingots 36 Silver Ingots
Silver Pickaxe 100 Silver Ingots 40 Silver Ingots
Iron Helmet 40 Iron Ingots 16 Iron Ingots
Iron Body 50 Iron Ingots 20 Iron Ingots
Iron Legguards 50 Iron Ingots 20 Iron Ingots
Iron Boots 25 Iron Ingots 10 Iron Ingots
Silver Helmet 80 Silver Ingots 32 Silver Ingots
Silver Body 100 Silver Ingots 40 Silver Ingots
Silver Legguards 75 Silver Ingots 30 Silver Ingots
Silver Boots 40 Silver Ingots 16 Silver Ingots

For example, an Iron Axe at half durability returns 8 Iron Ingots instead of 16. Repairing an item and then salvaging it never comes out ahead — salvage is for clearing out gear you've outgrown.

Batch Crafting

Update: The forge supports batch crafting for smelting — pick a quantity (×1, ×5, or ×10) and the anvil works through it automatically instead of requiring a click per craft.
 • Batching applies to stackable smelts; forged tools and armor craft one per request.
 • Each unit takes roughly 1 second — a ×10 batch of smelting takes roughly 10 seconds.
 • If materials run out mid-batch, crafting stops and tells you — no partial-consumption surprises.
 • Closing the forge window cancels anything not yet started, at no material cost.

Bank Stacking

Marketplace Restrictions

Only undamaged (full-durability) tools and armor can be listed on the Marketplace. Direct player trades accept worn gear. Repair at Grimjaw or Harun to restore a piece to full durability before listing it.

Tips

 • Smelt ingots in bulk before forging sessions — at about 1 second per ingot with ×10 batching, stockpiling is nearly instant now compared to the old 30-second rate.
 • Iron and Silver tools require reaching the relevant Smithing level before you can forge them — level up through smelting and the Copper tools first (there is no copper armor; the first armor piece, the Iron Helmet, needs Smithing 14).
 • Armor grants real XP on craft, so a full set is worth forging for the XP even if you don't plan to wear it yet.
 • Keep gear undamaged if you intend to sell it on the Marketplace — repair before listing.
 • Don't confuse Starter sword's low 5 damage for a bug — it's an intentional cut (from 20, on 6 August 2026) meant to make the Copper upgrade feel meaningful.
 • Iron and silver tools are worth the jump: on top of the faster swing they have a chance of double resources and pay bonus gathering or Combat XP (see Tool tier perks).
 • Outgrown a tier? Salvage the old tool for 40% of its ingots instead of letting it gather dust.
 • Smelting or forging 100 items unlocks the Anvil Regular achievement (4,000 Smithing XP).
