How to get Smelted from Iron Ore + Coal

Iron Ingot is a mid-tier crafting material created by smelting Iron Ore and Coal at any furnace. Iron Ingots are used to forge mid-tier tools and the first armor in Kintara — solid, reliable gear for players who've progressed past early game.

Iron Ingots represent the bridge between basic copper gear and end-game silver equipment.

Smelting

Iron Ore is smelted into Iron Ingots at any furnace (Frostmere or Dunes West). No Smithing level required to smelt. Smelts are priced per ingot, with a ×1/×5/×10 batch selector and a pace of about 1 second per ingot.

Input Output XP Time
6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal 1 Iron Ingot 22 XP ~1 second per ingot

A ×10 batch consumes 60 ore + 60 coal for 10 ingots and 220 XP.

Uses

Iron Ingots are used for mid-tier crafting:

Item Cost Smithing req Notes
Iron Axe 40 ingots + 1,000 Wood 10 Mid-tier gathering tool — swings 10% faster
Iron Sword 55 ingots + 1,300 Wood 13 Mid-tier melee weapon — hits for 26
Iron Pickaxe 60 ingots + 1,600 Wood 17 Mid-tier mining tool — swings 10% faster
Iron Helmet 40 ingots + 40 Molten Rock + 5 Brute Horn 14 2% damage reduction (head armor)
Iron Boots 25 ingots + 25 Molten Rock + 2 Brute Horn 16 1% damage reduction (foot armor)
Iron Legguards 50 ingots + 50 Molten Rock + 10 Brute Horn 18 3% damage reduction (leg armor)
Iron Body Armor 50 ingots + 50 Molten Rock + 10 Brute Horn 20 4% damage reduction (torso armor)

Iron armor no longer grants a shield bonus — each piece gives percentage damage reduction instead, and a full Iron set (4 pieces) reduces incoming damage by 10%. Armor is crafted at Kaziir the Armoursmith in The Dunes and requires Combat 15 to wear.

Crafting Progression

Iron Ingots are the mid-tier in the crafting hierarchy:

Tier Ingot Smelting cost (per ingot) Tool Smithing req Armor Smithing req Swing-speed bonus
Low Copper Ingot 10 Stone + 5 Coal 0–7 N/A +5%
Mid Iron Ingot 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal 10–17 14–20 +10%
High Silver Ingot 4 Silver Ore + 8 Coal 20–27 24–30 +15%

Iron tools swing faster than copper and armor provides meaningful protection. A full Iron loadout is a significant power jump from starter gear.

Sourcing Iron Ore

To create Iron Ingots, you need Iron Ore:

Location Requirement Notes
Frostmere Mining 5 The only iron ore region — every Frostmere rock yields iron ore

Wilderness rocks give Stone and Coal, and Dunes rocks give Silver Ore — iron comes from Frostmere alone.

Repair Costs

Iron tools and armor can be repaired at any blacksmith (Grimjaw in Frostmere, Harun in Dunes West):

Repair scenario Cost Notes
Partly worn 60% of the full craft cost, scaled to the durability missing Charged in every recipe material — ingots and Wood (armor: ingots, Molten Rock and Brute Horn) — with a minimum of 1 of each. A half-worn item costs about 30% of its recipe.
0 durability The item breaks and is destroyed, so repair it before it runs out

Worn gear can still be traded between players, but it can't be listed on the Marketplace until it is repaired to full durability.

Stack Size

Iron Ingots stack up to 10,000 in a single inventory slot. Large crafting projects can be completed without inventory management issues.
