Grouper is the seventh of Kintara's eight fish, caught in the water around the wreck at The Sunken Isles. Cooking it converts it to Cooked Grouper, which heals 35 HP — or, on a failed cook, to Burnt Grouper, which is junk. Cooked Grouper does nothing in The Dunes: the heat blocks every cooked fish there, and cacti is the only food that heals in the sand.

The wreck has 3 live fishing spots, and its water is shark water: stay on one tile for 45 seconds — or keep your line in the wreck's water for 45 seconds from the tile you fish from — and a shark bites you for 40 HP. Moving one tile starts the count again. See Sharks. Casts at the wreck also roll for the Ship's Wheel and the Anchor (1 in 6,000 each per cast) — see The Sunken Isles. Cooking Grouper requires Cooking level 36. Cooking any fish is a roll against your Cooking level — the burn chance starts at 30% (level 5 and below) and slides down toward, but never reaches, 0% (5% at level 40). The Roast Pit shows your exact current burn chance.
Uses
- Grouper can be traded up for Glow Jig (10 Grouper, raw or cooked, for 5 Glow Jigs) at the Old Fisher or Dockhand Maren.
- Cooked Grouper counts toward the Angler Outfit raffle at The Angler — it is worth 12 points, against 1 for Herring, 5 for Trout, 8 for Bass, 9 for Tuna, 10 for Swordfish, 11 for Parrotfish and 13 for Fangtooth, and 500 points buys one raffle ticket. The outfit itself needs Fishing 30 to wear; the exchange has no level requirement.
