Giant Scorpion
Found at The Dunes (West, East, South)
Hits to kill
Aggro range
Contact damage
Combat XP 110 Combat XP per kill
Drops Desert Robes pieces (1 in 5,000 each), Medium Scroll (1 in 1,000)
Notes Roams all three Dunes realms. The fastest Medium Scroll farm for most players — Venomweaver and King Scorpia have better odds per kill, but Giant Scorpions die far faster. King Scorpia Mount camouflage makes them ignore you.

Giant Scorpion is a hostile mob found in The Dunes — West, East, and South realms all have packs of them. It is a source of Medium Scrolls and Desert Robes pieces. Venomweaver and King Scorpia have better odds per kill, but Giant Scorpions die in seconds and respawn in about 20, so they remain the fastest Medium Scroll farm for most players.

Giant Scorpions ignore riders of the King Scorpia Mount until attacked.

Access: The Dunes is a paid area — free-play accounts can't enter.
Update — Balance Pass: Combat XP was retuned from 175 to 110. Scorpions aggro from 6 tiles and keep chasing for 3 tiles beyond that before giving up.

Combat

Mob Combat XP HP Contact damage Aggro range Chase range Notes
Giant Scorpion 110 per kill 200 9–20 per hit (rolled) 6 tiles 9 tiles Roam in packs across all three Dunes realms — Dunes East has 9, Dunes West 6, Dunes South 8. Respawn in about 20 seconds.

Players wearing no armor at all take 50% more damage from Giant Scorpions — any single worn armor piece removes the penalty.

Loot Table

Giant Scorpions drop multiple items per kill on independent rolls.

Drop Chance Amount Notes
Desert Robes (Top or Bottom) 1 in 5,000 each 1 Top and Bottom are rolled independently. Passive source of heat-immunity cosmetics — see Desert Robes for full set details.
Medium Scroll 1 in 1,000 1 Unique quest scroll. Redeemable to Maelor the Scrollbinder for 6–15 Gold. Halved from the previous 1 in 500 rate.

Giant Scorpions do not drop Gold — their kill table is the Desert Robe rolls and the Medium Scroll only.

Medium Scroll Farming

Giant Scorpions are the fastest Medium Scroll farm for most players: Venomweaver and King Scorpia have better odds per kill, but you get far more kills per hour here.

Source Drop rate Notes
Venomweaver 1 in 600 Better odds per kill than Giant Scorpions. Requires average skill level 20, a paid account and a queued cave encounter.
Giant Scorpion 1 in 1,000 Open-world farming, no queue — worse odds per kill than Venomweaver, but far more kills per hour.
Magma Brute 1 in 1,500 Slowest of the four sources.
King Scorpia 1 in 300 Best raw odds, but only his top 3 damage dealers roll, and he only appears in spawn waves.
Update: Giant Scorpion's Medium Scroll rate was halved (1 in 500 → 1 in 1,000) in an earlier pass. It remains a solid open-world option for players who want passive Desert Robes drops alongside their scrolls, but Venomweaver now offers better odds per kill if you can meet its level requirement.

Heat Management

The Dunes deals 1 HP every 10 seconds to all players (after a 30-second grace period). You must:

  • Wear Desert Robes (Top + Bottom) for complete immunity, OR
  • Use Health Potion+ to heal through heat damage, OR
  • Bring Cacti (each heals 20 HP; cutting them needs an Iron Axe or better + Woodcutting 20) to heal on the spot

Regular potions and food do not work in The Dunes. Starter tools do not work anywhere in the Dunes either — rocks need a forged-tier pickaxe, and cacti need an iron or better axe.

King Scorpia Mount Interaction

While riding King Scorpia Mount, all Giant Scorpions ignore you completely.

  • Attack a Scorpion and camouflage breaks — they hunt you for 30 seconds
  • Every further attack refreshes the 30-second timer
  • Stop attacking and wait it out, camouflage returns
  • Useful for repositioning or skipping packs
  • King Scorpia himself is not fooled — he hunts riders as normal

Strategy Tips

  • Scroll farming — Venomweaver has better Medium Scroll odds per kill (1/600 vs. 1/1,000), but Giant Scorpions die and respawn so quickly that they're the faster farm for most players — no queue, and Desert Robes on the side
  • Pack hunting — Giant Scorpions often roam in groups and notice you from 6 tiles away, chasing to 9 before they give up, so a pack is easy to walk into — but at most two scorpions will chase any one player; the rest stand down or pick someone else
  • Heat watch — constantly monitor your HP; heat damage is consistent
  • PvP alert — Dunes realms are full PvP outside safe camps (Dunes South has no safe camps at all); bring friends or fight defensively
  • Shield + armor — Iron or Silver armor reduces incoming damage, and wearing at least one piece removes the 50% unarmored damage penalty; bring Shield Potions
  • Sword tier — Silver Sword hits for 30 base + 10 from Strength Potion = 40 damage per swing
