The Blacksmith Forge is the smithing station located in Frostmere, operated by the NPC Grimjaw. Players visit the Blacksmith Forge to smelt ingots and forge copper, iron, and silver tools and weapons through the Smithing skill.
Frostmere has no entry requirement, so the forge is open to everyone. The old "Lvl 2" upgrade system was retired — its items live on as the iron tier of the current forge (the old Lvl 2 Axe is now the Iron Axe, and so on). One short note for returning players: the old flat-material upgrades (Metal + Wood + Coal) and the old "doubles yield and XP" effect no longer exist. Today every tier swings faster, and iron and silver tools also carry a chance of double resources and bonus XP (see below).
Smelting
Ingots are smelted from raw resources, in batches of ×1 / ×5 / ×10:
| Ingot | Cost each | Smithing XP each |
|---|---|---|
| Copper Ingot | 10 Stone + 5 Coal | 10 XP |
| Iron Ingot | 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal | 22 XP |
| Silver Ingot | 4 Silver Ore + 8 Coal | 30 XP |
Forging
Nine tools are forged from ingots plus Wood, gated by Smithing level 0–27:
| Tier | Tools | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Copper | Copper Axe, Copper Pickaxe, Copper Sword | 5% faster swing; sword hits for 23 |
| Iron | Iron Axe, Iron Pickaxe, Iron Sword | 10% faster swing; axe and pickaxe have a 10% chance of a double resource and +5% Woodcutting / Mining XP; sword hits for 26 and earns +5% Combat XP per monster kill |
| Silver | Silver Axe, Silver Pickaxe, Silver Sword | 15% faster swing; axe and pickaxe have a 20% chance of a double resource and +10% Woodcutting / Mining XP; sword hits for 30 and earns +10% Combat XP per monster kill |
Copper tools buy swing speed only. See Smithing for how the perks work, and Frostmere and Smithing for the full recipe table with material amounts and level gates.
Repairs
Forged tools carry 4,000 uses. The forge also repairs damaged gear — a repair costs 60% of every material the forge charged to make it (ingots and Wood), scaled to the missing durability, with at least one of each. Armour crafted by Kaziir the Armoursmith is repaired here too; Kaziir himself does not take it back.
Salvage
The forge's Salvage tab melts a carried forged tool, sword or armour piece back into 40% of the ingots in its recipe (rounded down), scaled by how much durability it has left. Wood, Molten Rock and Brute Horn are not returned. You can't salvage what you're holding or wearing, starter gear, or anything with a relic in it, and an item too worn to return a single ingot is refused rather than destroyed. See Smithing for the full return table.
How to use
- Travel to Frostmere — no level requirement.
- Talk to Grimjaw at the Blacksmith Forge. Smelting, forging, repairs and salvage only work while you are standing in a forge.
- Have the required materials in your backpack — banked materials do not count.
- Select smelt, forge, repair, or salvage and confirm.
A second full blacksmith, Harun the Forgewright, operates in The Dunes West.
