Desert Robes is a two-piece functional cosmetic set that grants complete immunity to heat damage in The Dunes. The set consists of Desert Robe Top (hooded keffiyeh covering head and shoulders) and Desert Robe Bottom (full-length robe), inspired by traditional Sahara desert clothing.
When both pieces are worn together, they provide permanent, passive heat immunity — allowing indefinite exploration of The Dunes without Health Potion+ or Cacti harvesting.
The Set
Desert Robes consists of two pieces that must be worn together:
| Piece | Drop rate | Source | Effect alone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Desert Robe Top | 1 in 5,000 | Giant Scorpion | No effect (requires Bottom) |
| Desert Robe Bottom | 1 in 5,000 | Giant Scorpion | No effect (requires Top) |
| Both together | N/A | N/A | 100% heat immunity in The Dunes |
Heat Immunity
When both pieces are equipped:
- Heat damage negated: 1 HP every 10 seconds is completely prevented
- Passive effect: No activation or cooldown — immunity is always on while wearing
- Duration: Lasts as long as you wear both pieces
- Durability: Permanent (no durability decay)
Heat itself has a few extra rules worth knowing:
- Grace period: Heat damage only begins 30 seconds after entering a Dunes map; leaving and re-entering restarts the grace period.
- Ignores defenses: Heat damage bypasses shields and ignores armor — the full Desert Robe set is the only gear-based protection.
The Desert Robe set is the most cost-effective long-term solution for Dunes farming once acquired.
Heat Management Comparison
| Method | Acquisition | Setup time | Duration per unit | Cost to maintain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desert Robes | 2 rare drops (1/5,000 each) | Find and equip | Permanent while worn | Free (no durability) |
| Health Potion+ | Brewed by Nadeen the Sandcook (15 Cacti + 1 Health Potion + 5 Brute Horn each) | About 5 seconds per potion | 50 HP = ~500 seconds | Requires regular crafting |
| Cacti harvesting | Free | Instant | 20 HP = ~200 seconds | Requires an Iron or Silver Axe + Woodcutting 20 |
Desert Robes represent the ultimate heat solution — set-and-forget immunity.
Sourcing
Both pieces drop from Giant Scorpions at equal rates:
| Strategy | Details |
|---|---|
| Pure farming | Hunt Giant Scorpions specifically for robe drops (1/5,000 each, rolled independently — on average ~5,000 kills per piece and ~7,500 kills until you have both) |
| Passive acquisition | Farm Medium Scrolls (faster farming) and collect robes as bonus drops |
| Trading | Buy completed sets or individual pieces from other players on marketplace |
Most players acquire Desert Robes passively while farming Medium Scrolls from Giant Scorpions, which drop at 1/1,000 from the same mobs.
Marketplace & Trading
Desert Robe pieces are fully tradeable and stackable:
- List individually on marketplace
- Trade with other players
- Stack up to 10,000 per piece in your cosmetics bag
- A complete set (Top + Bottom) has high value for serious Dunes farmers
Complete sets are rare and valuable — many players choose to farm Cacti or Health Potion+ instead of waiting for robe drops.
Cosmetic Appearance
Desert Robes are inspired by traditional Sahara desert clothing:
- Top: Loose hooded keffiyeh/headwrap protecting head and shoulders from sun
- Bottom: Full-length flowing robe/caftan providing full-body coverage
- Palette: Tan and sandy browns matching the desert environment
- Style: Kintara's voxel aesthetic with fabric drape details
The cosmetic set is visually distinct and immediately recognizable as "Dunes gear."
