How to get Dropped by Zombies, Dragons and Wolves in the Wilderness areas (1 in 1,000)

A Beginner Scroll is a soulbound quest item that drops from wilderness mobs. Each one is uniquely generated with its own story, title, and tasks. Complete all four material deliveries plus your bonus objectives, then redeem it to Maelor the Scrollbinder for Gold.

How to get

Beginner Scrolls drop from Zombies, Dragons, and Wolves in the Wilderness, Wilderness Extension and Expanded Wilderness (wolves live only in the Expanded Wilderness) at a 1 in 1,000 chance per kill. Free-play accounts don't receive scroll drops. The Season 1 pass also handed out scrolls from one of its stops until the pass ended on 1 October 2026.

You can hold up to 5 unfinished scrolls at once, and any scrolls you carry burn if you die in the Wilderness or another death-penalty zone.

Tasks

Each Beginner Scroll contains:

  • 4 material-delivery tasks — Four of these five, each delivered to a named NPC in an exact amount: Wood (1,000–2,000), Stone (1,200–1,600), Coal (1,000–1,500), Iron Ore (300–800) and Cooked Fish (10–50, any cooked fish).
  • 1–2 bonus tasks — Drawn at random from content your Total Level can reach: kill 10 Dragons, 10 Zombies or 10 Wolves; deliver 5 Cooked Chicken; defeat the Venomweaver (Total Level 20+); kill 5 Magma Brutes (25+); catch 5 fish at The Shores (20+; catches at The Sunken Isles count too); or catch 5–10 fish at Whisperwood or The Pond. Each scroll is unique.

Reward

Complete every task and bring the scroll to Maelor the Scrollbinder on the Mainland to redeem it for 2–5 Gold.

Tips

  • Beginner Scrolls are rare — 1 in 1,000 is a long grind. Be patient.
  • Scrolls cannot be banked — redeem them before risking death. Dying in the Wilderness burns all scrolls you're carrying.
  • Complete tasks systematically to avoid backtracking.
  • Bonus tasks vary — you might hand in chicken, fish, or hunt mobs. Be ready for anything.
