Magma Brutes are large hostile mobs found in Emberstone. They are the zone's main combat encounter and the only source of Brute Horn drops. Do not confuse them with the cosmetic Magma Brute Pet — that pet is no longer obtainable through gameplay and is only available on the Marketplace. Magma Brutes give the highest open-world Combat XP of any mob in Kintara — more than Wild Dragon and significantly more than Wild Zombie — and now also drop Gold.

Unverified — Balance Pass: A recent balance pass patch note listed Magma Brute Combat XP as a flat 100. This conflicts with the weapon-tier table already documented on this page (175 base / 350 with Lvl 2 Sword / 367 with guild bonus). It's unclear whether 100 is a new flat base that the weapon multiplier still applies to, a replacement of the whole scaling system, or an error in the patch note. The table below has not been changed — verify in-game before updating it.

Update: Magma Brute respawn time has been increased — noticeably longer than the original 30 seconds. This was done to give solo players (and fishers working the zone) a real window to operate without brutes stacking up. Exact new respawn figure hasn't been confirmed in-game yet; update this page once tested.

Drops and rewards

Magma Brutes roll each of the following independently on kill — a single kill can yield Brute Horn, Gold, Medium Scroll, and a pet chance at once.

Update: Medium Scroll drop rate here has been halved, from 1 in 750 to 1 in 1,500. Giant Scorpion (1 in 1,000) and Venomweaver (1 in 500) both now beat Magma Brute for Medium Scroll farming.

Taming

Magma Brutes are strictly hostile and cannot be tamed.

Tips

• Bring Health, Shield, and Strength Potions from The Alchemist — Emberstone is a PvP zone and contact damage is heavy at 2 health sections per hit.
• Use a Lvl 2 Sword for double Combat XP per kill — the most efficient way to grind Combat at high levels (pending confirmation of the balance pass XP change above).
• Three Magma Brutes are always active, with a longer respawn than before — solo players and fishers now get a real window instead of brutes stacking back-to-back.
• Brute Horn drops at 1-in-5 — expect roughly one horn every 5 kills while farming here.
• Gold drops at 1-in-500 for 1–10 Gold — a rare bonus on top of your Brute Horn farming, not a reliable Gold source on its own.
• If you're farming for Medium Scrolls specifically, Giant Scorpion and especially Venomweaver now have better odds than Magma Brute.
