Iron Axe
Type Tool (iron tier)
Gathered at Smithed at Frostmere or Dunes West
Skill Woodcutting
Used for Swings 10% faster than the base Axe · 10% chance of double Wood · +5% Woodcutting XP

Iron Axe is the iron tier of the axe ladder, forged through Smithing at Frostmere or at Harun's forge in Dunes West. It is the iron step of the copper → iron → silver tool progression, and was previously listed on this wiki as the Lvl 2 Axe. It swings 10% faster than the base Axe, has a 10% chance on each swing of gathering 2 Wood instead of 1, and pays +5% Woodcutting XP when a tree is felled.

Use

  • Equip the Iron Axe in a hotbar slot (keys 1–6), same as the base Axe.
  • Use it on trees in the Wilderness to gather Wood.
  • Each swing yields 1 Wood (2 on the 10% double roll, shown as a small gold +2 ×2 over the tree); Woodcutting XP is granted when the tree is felled, with the Iron Axe's +5% on top. Tree size changes how many hits it takes to fell the tree, not the yield per hit.
  • It is the lowest axe tier that can cut cacti in The Dunes (Woodcutting 20 required) — see Woodcutting.

Acquisition

  • Forged from scratch through Smithing — no base Axe is consumed.
  • An unwanted Iron Axe can be salvaged at the forge for up to 16 Iron Ingots (less if it's worn).

Crafting cost

Requires Smithing level 10.

Material Amount
Iron Ingots 40
Wood 1,000

Each Iron Ingot smelts from 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal, so a full craft works out to roughly 240 ore and 240 coal end-to-end.

Durability

The Iron Axe has 4,000 total durability and spends 1 durability per swing, regardless of tree size.
