Iron Axe is the iron tier of the axe ladder, forged through Smithing at Frostmere or at Harun's forge in Dunes West. It is the iron step of the copper → iron → silver tool progression, and was previously listed on this wiki as the Lvl 2 Axe. Its benefit is a 10% faster swing than the base Axe — yield and Woodcutting XP are unchanged by tool tier.
Use
- Equip the Iron Axe in a hotbar slot (keys 1–6), same as the base Axe.
- Use it on trees in the Wilderness to gather Wood.
- Each swing yields 1 Wood; the 20 Woodcutting XP is granted when the tree is felled — the same as every axe tier. Tree size changes how many hits it takes to fell the tree, not the yield per hit.
- It is the lowest axe tier that can cut cacti in The Dunes (Woodcutting 20 required) — see Woodcutting.
Acquisition
- Forged from scratch through Smithing — no base Axe is consumed.
Crafting cost
Requires Smithing level 10.
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Iron Ingots | 40 |
| 1,000 |
Each Iron Ingot smelts from 6 Iron Ore + 6 Coal, so a full craft works out to roughly 240 ore and 240 coal end-to-end.
Durability
The Iron Axe has 4,000 total durability and spends 1 durability per swing, regardless of tree size.
