Mount Training

Template:Infobox system Mount Training is Kintara's fair, transparent system for increasing mount speed. Every mount starts at **25% base speed** and can be trained incrementally to a hard cap of **55%** through paid sessions with Sorrel the Stablemaster.

Training is per-mount, permanent, server-enforced, and tied to the individual mount — your trained mount keeps its speed through trades, marketplace sales, and any other transaction.

Core Mechanics

Base Speed System

Every mount in Kintara — regardless of rarity, cost, or source — begins at the same **25% move speed bonus**. This creates a level playing field where wallet size does not determine PvP dominance.

  • **Dragon Mount:** 25% base (was previously variable)
  • **Whale Mount:** 25% base (was previously variable)
  • **Rocket Mount:** 25% base (was previously 45%)
  • **Wolf Mount:** 25% base
  • **Turtle Mount:** 25% base
  • **All other mounts:** 25% base

Training Sessions

Visit Sorrel the Stablemaster on the Mainland with a mount you own:

  1. Open the training interface
  2. Select which mount to train
  3. Pay **10 Gold** per session
  4. Receive **+5% speed** to that specific mount

Each session is incremental. Going from 25% base to 55% cap requires exactly **6 sessions = 60 Gold total**.

Hard Cap

The maximum any mount can reach is **55% move speed bonus**. This is the highest speed Kintara has ever offered and creates a ceiling that prevents endless speed creep.

  • Minimum: 25%
  • Maximum: 55%
  • Range: 30 percentage points
  • Sessions to max: 6 (at +5% per session)

Per-Mount Training

Speed is tied to the individual mount, not the player:

  • Each mount you own can be trained separately
  • If you own 3 Dragon Mounts, each must be trained independently
  • A trained mount keeps its speed if transferred, traded, or sold
  • A 55% mount is a valuable, tradeable asset
  • An untrained mount is always 25%

Server-Enforced & Permanent

Trained speed is stamped onto the mount server-side and is enforced everywhere:

  • **Inventory:** Shows trained speed
  • **Bank:** Persists during storage
  • **Marketplace listings:** Displayed in trading UI
  • **Wagers:** Confirmed before bet resolution
  • **Guild displays:** Visible on mount rosters
  • **Trades:** Transfers with the mount

Once trained, your mount's speed cannot be reduced. A 55% mount will always be 55%, even if traded to another player.

Why This System

The previous system suffered from speed creep: every new mount had to be faster than the last to feel exciting, creating an unfair PvP landscape where richer players were automatically faster.

This new system:

  • **Removes pay-to-win mechanics** — rich players can't buy speed, only grind Gold for sessions
  • **Makes all mounts equal at start** — fairness on day one
  • **Rewards player investment** — 60 Gold and patience earn a maxed mount
  • **Creates tradeable assets** — trained mounts have real value
  • **Eliminates power creep** — no future mount will be faster than 55%
  • **Supports skill-based PvP** — speed is earned, not purchased

Training Costs & Progression

Sessions Total cost Speed achieved Notes
0 0 Gold 25% Base speed — every mount starts here
1 10 Gold 30% First training session
2 20 Gold 35%
3 30 Gold 40% Halfway to cap
4 40 Gold 45%
5 50 Gold 50%
6 60 Gold 55% Hard cap — maximum speed

Mount Training vs. Gilding

Two systems let you customize your mounts:

  • **Training:** Incremental speed increases. 10 Gold per session. Guaranteed. Any mount can reach 55%.
  • **Gilding:** High-stakes ritual to create rare cosmetic variants. No Gold cost but mounts burned (win or lose). See Gilded Mounts for full details.

Both are optional ways to invest in your mounts.

Tips

  • **Budget 60 Gold** to fully train a mount from base (25%) to cap (55%).
  • **Trained mounts are valuable** — a 55% mount is worth more on the marketplace than an untrained one.
  • **Train mounts you'll keep** — once trained, they stay trained through all transactions.
  • **Speed matters in PvP** — a 55% mount gives you a real advantage in mounted combat.
  • **No refunds** — once you pay 10 Gold for a session, you cannot reverse it. Plan carefully.
  • **All mounts equal** — don't assume new mounts are faster. Check the base speed before buying.
  • **Sorrel is permanent** — mount training will always be available at Sorrel the Stablemaster.
