Buy Orders

Buy Orders are standing offers to buy on the Marketplace — "paying up to this much Gold for up to this many". Where a listing is supply waiting for a buyer, a buy order is demand waiting for a seller: you post what you want and how much Gold you'll pay in total, and any player holding that item can sell straight into your order, even while you're offline.

Escrow: The Gold for a buy order is taken from you the moment the order is placed — just as a listed item is held in escrow. A fill can never bounce, and cancelling the order returns whatever Gold hasn't been paid out.

Where to find them

Buy orders live in two places inside the Marketplace window:

  • Orders tab — the whole catalogue of orderable items, including items nobody is currently selling (that's the point: standing demand matters most when there's no supply). Your own orders are always reachable here, so your escrowed Gold always has a way home.
  • Item pages — open any item from the Buy board and its open buy orders appear under the listings, best offer first. Your own orders carry a Cancel button; everyone else's carry a quantity box and a Fill button.

Only items that actually exist in the game (held by at least one regular player) appear on the Orders board — plus any item that already has an open order, so an order can always be found and cancelled.

Placing an order

Placing an order needs the tutorial finished, every core skill — Combat, Woodcutting, Mining, Fishing and Cooking — at level 5 or higher, and you logged into the game.

Filling one is a sale, so it needs all of that plus everything a Marketplace listing needs: at least 1,000 $KINS held for 24 hours, and you must not be standing in the Wilderness, its caves, Emberstone or the Dunes.

  1. Open the Orders tab (or an item's page) and choose Place buy order.
  2. Enter the quantity you want and the total Gold you're offering for it.
  3. Confirm — the total Gold is escrowed immediately and the order goes live.
Rule Value
Minimum total offer 5 Gold
Maximum quantity per order 10,000
Open orders at once 3 (6 for Kintara Club members)
Order lifetime 1, 3 or 7 days (default 3)

For mounts, the order also names the trained speed tier it wants, and a fill must match that tier exactly — so you can post an order for a fully trained mount without risking being handed an untrained one.

Filling an order

Any player holding the wanted item can sell into an open order from the item's page, provided they meet the selling requirements above — filling an order is a sale, and it runs exactly the same checks as putting the item up as a listing. Partial fills are supported: sell 50 into an order for 200 and the order stays open for the remaining 150. Each fill pays a proportional slice of the escrowed Gold, and the fill that completes the order sweeps whatever is left — the payouts always add up to exactly the Gold that was escrowed.

A fill must be worth at least 2 Gold, so the seller keeps something after the fee; if a fill is too small, the game tells you the smallest quantity that works.

A fill is a sale: the 5% Gold sale fee (minimum 1 Gold) comes out of the seller's payout, exactly as it does when a listing sells. The buyer never pays more than the Gold they escrowed.

Cancelling

Cancel an order at any time from the Orders tab or the item page. The remaining escrowed Gold is returned to you in full; anything already paid out for completed fills stays paid.

Expiry

Every order runs for 1, 3 or 7 days (you choose when placing it; default 3). When it expires it disappears from sellers and can no longer be filled, and within a few minutes it is cancelled automatically: any Gold it still held is returned to you and you get a DM saying so.

What can be ordered

Most tradeable items can carry a buy order — resources, consumables, cosmetics, mounts, pets and furniture. Three things cannot:

  • Gear with wear (armor and higher-tier tools/weapons) — an order can't see an item's remaining durability, so a nearly-broken piece could fill an order priced for a pristine one. Buy those from listings instead — gear can only be listed brand-new, at full durability.
  • Property keys — bought and sold through listings only.
  • Gold itself — buying Gold with Gold is nonsense.
