Death Insurance

Provided by Bank Teller
Location Bank
Cost 25, 60 or 150 Gold (one policy at a time)

Death Insurance lets you protect the gear you carry out of the Bank. Buy a policy from the Bank Teller, and if a monster or boss kills you, your covered items are held in a claim instead of dropping into your grave. Talk to the Bank Teller again to take them back or not.

Where to buy

Talk to the Bank Teller in the Bank and choose 🛡️ Death Insurance. It opens its own window with your status (Not insured, your active tier, or Claim waiting), the three policies, and any claim that is waiting for you.

While a claim is waiting, the Bank Storage window also shows a notice at the top: Insurance claim waiting — talk to the Bank Teller.

Tiers

Tier Price Covers
Basic 25 Gold Swords and tools (relics and wear are kept)
Standard 60 Gold Everything in Basic, plus your armour and your Bow
Premium 150 Gold Everything in Standard, plus the resources and potions you carry (up to 5,000 of each type per claim), plus your scrolls
  • The price is paid from the Gold in your inventory; gold in the bank doesn't count. The gold is gone for good, even if you never use the policy.
  • You hold one policy at a time. It never expires and can't be traded.
  • A policy is used up only when you accept a claim.

What is covered

  • Only what you carried out of the bank. The game remembers the coverable items in your backpack, hotbar and worn armour when you buy the policy and every time you visit the bank. A claim can hold at most that much of each item, so anything picked up since your last bank visit — loot from the fight, a looted grave, resources gathered on the trip — is never covered.
  • After a death, that record is cleared. Visit the bank again before your next trip to be covered again.
  • Scrolls (Premium only). A carried scroll still burns when you die, but with a Premium policy the claim can bring it back: accept the claim and the scroll returns to your bag with its progress kept. Scrolls can't be banked, so they don't need to have been in the bank with you; any scroll you were carrying is covered. Accepting needs a free bag slot for it.
  • Never covered, whatever the tier: carried gold, keys, kits and furniture. Mounts, cosmetics and pets are never lost on death anyway.

Which deaths count

Death Insurance covers deaths to monsters and bosses only: the Wilderness, the Venomweaver's cave, King Scorpia, sharks and so on.

  • The killing blow decides. If another player lands the killing blow, it is a normal PvP death: your items drop as usual and your policy is kept for next time. A death where a player softened you up but a monster finished you is covered.
  • If the game didn't record the killing blow, the death counts as PvP when another player had been hitting you just before it.

Claims

When a covered death happens, you're told "Death insurance kept N items out of your grave. Talk to the Bank Teller to claim." (with Premium it also says it can bring back your scroll). The rest of your items drop or are lost as normal.

In the Bank Teller's Death Insurance window, the claim lists the items it kept and any scroll it can bring back. You choose:

Choice What happens
Accept The items go into your bank, any covered scroll returns to your bag with its progress, and the policy is used up.
Decline, keep policy Everything stays lost, as in a normal death, and your policy stays active for your next death.
  • Accepting needs enough free bank slots for the whole claim. If there isn't room you're told how many slots it needs, and nothing moves until you make room and accept again.
  • A claim not settled within 7 days declines by itself (the items are lost, the policy stays active).
  • While a claim is waiting you can't buy another policy.

Tips

  • Bank first, then head out: a policy covers what you were carrying the last time you were in the bank.
  • In the Venomweaver's cave a death normally destroys everything you carry; with a policy, the covered items go into the claim instead.
  • Premium is the only tier that saves a half-finished scroll.
  • Declining a claim is worth it when the items were cheap: you keep the policy for a death that costs more.
