Fishing Rod is the tool required to train the Fishing skill. There are now three rods — the free Basic Fishing Rod, the Level 2 Fishing Rod, and the Fire-Resistant Fishing Rod — each covering different waters. This page previously described the retired one-rod, one-fish system; the old generic Fish was renamed to Herring.
How to get
The basic rod is given free by the Old Fisher NPC located at The Pond — if you lose yours, return to the Old Fisher for a new one. The Level 2 rod (10 Gold) and Fire-Resistant rod (15 Gold) are sold by Dockhand Maren at The Shores.
Usage
Equip a rod and cast into the water to begin fishing. Each catch gives:
- 125–145 Fishing XP, depending on the species
- A raw fish — Herring, Trout, Bass, Tuna, or Swordfish — which can be cooked (see Cooking)
Fishing can occasionally roll a rare mount or other drop depending on the location.

Free accounts (holding under 1,000 $KINS) can fish The Pond and Whisperwood only — The Shores (including The Deep) and Emberstone are closed to them — and never receive mount drops from fishing.
