Woodcutting is the skill for gathering Wood by chopping trees in the Wilderness. Wood is one of the five materials required by the Traveling Merchant for Gold, making Woodcutting one of the most important early-game skills.
Training
Get a free Axe from the Lumberjack on the Mainland if you don't already have one, then equip it in a hotbar slot and chop trees in the Wilderness. There are no tree level requirements — the only upgrade is your axe tier.

Uses of Wood
Tips
- Bank Wood regularly during Wilderness trips — the Wilderness is a PvP zone and dying means losing your backpack contents.
- Upgrade to Lvl 2 Axe as soon as you reach Total Level 20 — it doubles both yield and XP, making every trip twice as efficient.
- Chop near rock nodes so you can switch between Woodcutting and Mining in the same trip.
