The Kraken is only rolled on casts into the trench itself; the reef and the wreck have rare catches of their own (see [[The Sunken Isles]]). If your mount bag has no free slot and no Kraken in it already, a winning roll pays the Fangtooth instead. The trench is shark water, so keep moving while you fish (see [[Sharks]]). The Kraken isn't sold in any shop.
